Tiziano Tuccinardi was born in Pisa in November 1977.

He graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (CTF, a five-year degree course) from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pisa in 2002, with top marks (110/110 cum laude). He obtained his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the same university in 2006.

From December 2007 to March 2015, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pisa.

From November 2009 to July 2014, he was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine, Center for Biotechnology, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

From April 2015 to April 2022, he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Pisa.

Since May 2022, he has been a Full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Pisa.

Since July 2016, he has been an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, College of Science and Technology, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

Since November 2023, he has been the Director of the PhD program in “Science of Drug and Bioactive Substances” at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa.

Since November 2018, he has been the Director of the “Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology” MD (long cycle) program at the University of Pisa.

Since 2015, he has been the Director of the “Computer-Aided Drug Design” International Summer School (http://www.mmvsl.it/wp/miscellaneous/cadd-summer-school/).

Since 2009, he has been a member of the Academic Board of the PhD program “Science of Drug and Bioactive Substances” (University of Pisa), and since 2023, he has also been a member of the Academic Board of the PhD program “Genomic and Experimental Medicine (GEM)” at Scuola Superiore Meridionale (SSM).

He has published more than 200 papers, has an H-index of 45, and has received over 7,000 citations.

In 2010, he was awarded the ‘Farmindustria Prize for Pharmaceutical Research’, dedicated to scientists under 40 years old.

In 2020, he was recognized as a member of the top 2% of scientists in the Medicinal & Biomolecular Chemistry field (ranked 871 out of 80,622 scientists), as reported by Ioannidis JPA, Boyack KW, Baas J. in “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators.” PLoS Biol. 2020; 18(10). doi: 10.1371/journal.pbio.3000918.

In 2021, he received the first edition of the ESMEC Alumni Award, a European award given to an outstanding researcher in the field of Medicinal Chemistry who has participated in one of the forty editions of the European School of Medicinal Chemistry (ESMEC), either as an oral or poster presenter.

He is a co-inventor of eight patents and serves as a Scientific Advisory Board Member for the Bio Future Medicine (BFM) startup (www.biofuturemedicine.com).

He is the Editor-in-Chief of Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry (Bentham) and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the following journals: Journal of Enzyme Inhibition & Medicinal Chemistry (Taylor & Francis), Bioorganic Chemistry (Elsevier), and PLOS ONE (PLOS).

RESEARCH INTERESTS
His research interests include drug and lead discovery, with a focus on computer-assisted approaches and medicinal chemistry, including the synthesis of small molecules and virtual and biomolecular screening.
