Gabriella Ortore graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Pisa in 1998 with a thesis on “The Possible Biotransformation of Aziridines in Amino-alcohols Catalyzed by Epoxide Hydrolase”, under the guidance of Prof. Cinzia Chiappe and Prof. Mauro Pineschi. In 2002 she obtained her Ph.D from the same university with a dissertation on “Computational Methods for Studying Protein-Ligand Docking”.
Her supervisor was Prof. Adriano Martinelli. That same year she was awarded a research fellowship of four years in the field of Computational Chemistry, to be carried out in Prof. Martinelli’s laboratory.
In 2004 she completed the Postgraduate School of Specialization in Hospital Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Pisa. After a brief period as a secondary-school chemistry teacher, she was appointed as Scientific Technician at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Pisa.
Since November 2018 she is Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Pisa.
She likes Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concert No. 2 in C minor Op. 18, the Mattinata sea, computational methodologies applied to medicinal chemistry, like molecular docking, homology modeling, pharmacophoric studies and 3D-QSAR, and the Siena countryside.
